While on campus I was introduced to another numbering system they call the binary system. Where there are two numbers zero or one. These represented discrete variables. For instance a switch is either on or off. So zero would mean off one would mean on. I loved the course though the marks had a unique way of fooling an employer that I was not as good at it as I was. I have not had an opportunity to use that knowledge in the industry but at least it will help to illustrate as I wait to go to a company that I can utilize that knowledge.
I like to link the binary system to what John the Revelator was referring to when he castigates the church in Laodicea for not being hot or cold hence needed to be spewed out. Over time I have observed that most of us Christians love to be just warm.. not too hot not too cold.
Not too white not too black just grey. Not too churchy not too worldly. Never here nor there ....
Just in between. So much so that people around are not sure what we stand for.
We love to excuse ourselves with The Preacher's words in Ecclesiastes 7:16-17 that we should be moderate.
16Do not be excessively righteous and do not be overly wise. Why should you ruin yourself? 17 Do not be excessively wicked and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time?…
When pushed to the corner we pull the 'it's a relative world' card. It is little wonder that we are not having the impact that the early church had.
We love to think that its safe thing to sit on the fence.. though in real sense it is a dangerous thing to sit there. You risk being pricked by the thorns. Worse still You risk toppling. Chances are high that you will fall to the worse side.. going by Murphy's law that bread always falls on the battered side.
Jesus Himself cautioned us that we cannot serve two masters at the same time because you will neglect another.
There came a time when Joshua was faced with the same decision and he put it forth to the Israelites and said:
But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
As the time came for Joshua, I hope it comes for each one of us sooner. That we choose who to live for. Whether for God or for Satan. I know that you will make the right decision :To serve God.
I call us back to taking a stand. To being white or black, hot or cold. I am of the conviction that it is possible to obey the scripture of moderation without being relative.
I pray that for each one who has made the decision to serve God, that by our actions and by our values people would look at us and see the Christ we follow. They will not need to second guess on whether or not you are Christian because our lives tell it all.
You see, the guys looked at Peter during the night he denied Jesus were suspicious that he must have been with Jesus? I desire that it be the same for us.
Lovely! :-)
